Sabi Gold Mine FC have used the recent Munhumutapa Cup fixture gap to regroup and refocus after their early exit from the competition, a break that has effectively given them a two-week preparation window ahead of their league encounter against Shurugwi FC.
The break comes at a crucial time for the side, popularly known as the Golden Boys, who have endured a difficult run of five consecutive defeats, leaving supporters increasingly frustrated with the team’s form. With no fixture last weekend, the squad turned its attention fully to training and recovery as they look to turn their season around.
Head coach Kumbulani Msendeki acknowledged the challenges but remained confident in his side’s response during the training period.
“Losing is part of the game but what is important is to bounce back to our winning ways. For the past two weeks we have been working on that mentally. I believe the lads have recovered well and accepted that losing week in week out could be emotionally frustrating,” said Msendeki.

He added that the current struggles are also part of a learning curve for a squad still adapting to the level of competition, with several players experiencing it for the first time. Msendeki urged supporters to remain patient as the team continues to rebuild confidence and cohesion.
“To the fans I call for patience, belief, encouragement and support to the team as it is passing through this phase,” he said.
Looking ahead to the fixture against Shurugwi FC, who are also battling near the relegation zone, Msendeki believes the team is on the right path despite injury concerns.
“Good days are coming. We are still struggling with injuries but expecting them to recuperate faster than expected. In the meantime, we need to adjust and bring joy to our beloved supporters,” he added.
