Just when it seemed Dynamos had rediscovered their winning touch, old wounds have resurfaced.
The Glamour Boys have breathed life into their attack, scoring six goals in their last three matches, but defensive frailties continue to haunt Genesis Mangombe's men after back-to-back 2-2 draws against Manica Diamonds and FC Hunters.
Fresh from ending Ngezi Platinum Stars' unbeaten run with a 2-1 victory on Matchday 15, expectations among the DeMbare faithful were soaring. However, successive draws against teams battling near the foot of the table have raised fresh questions about the club's ability to finish off games.
Ironically, a side that struggled badly for goals last season is now finding the back of the net with ease, only for costly defensive lapses and late concessions to deny them maximum points.
The latest setback came against FC Hunters, where Frank Agyemang's clinical brace took his tally to six goals, drawing him level with Khama Billiat among the Premier Soccer League's top scorers. Yet, once again, Dynamos were left wondering what might have been.
Adding intrigue to today's encounter was the presence of Denver Mukamba and Vusa Ngwenya, two players who played a crucial role in helping Dynamos avoid relegation during the club's turbulent 2025 season. This time, however, the pair turned out for FC Hunters against their parent club.
Mangombe had already sounded the alarm over his side's habit of throwing away valuable points.
"We have been dropping two crucial points in key moments and that is something we are working on. It could be an issue of improving our game management and avoiding lapses in concentration," said Mangombe.

"Fans always have expectations and, obviously, such trends do not sit well with them, so it is an issue that we are seriously looking into."
Supporters have remained patient, but concerns over the team's defending have become impossible to ignore.
"Conceding the same type of goals from set pieces or crosses into the box game in and game out. We always struggle in the second half, especially when Wisdom is substituted, but the biggest challenge is a lack of composure in our play, rush tackles, making crosses that do not reach their intended targets and needlessly losing possession," said supporter Tawanda Mugarisanwa.
Veteran sports journalist Robson Sharuko believes the signs of progress are evident, but the defence is undermining the team's efforts.
"Your strikers are doing the business unlike last season because a team which scores six goals in three straight matches must get a better return than just five out of nine points. It's the defence which isn't doing as expected because there is real value in clean sheets," said Sharuko.
Another supporter, Trice Goats, also sees reasons for optimism.
"Good thing is Dynamos are actually scoring goals. Maybe they need to sort the defence and midfield a bit. This is a big improvement from last season," he said.
Muera Nzou believes opponents continue to raise their game whenever they face Zimbabwe's most successful club.
"The coach said it that every team in the league plays better when playing against Dynamos, so I'm not surprised by that result. This Hunters FC side lost heavily against Hardrock, but today they were playing better football," said Nzou.
For a club that spent much of last season struggling to score, goals are no longer the problem. But unless Dynamos plug the holes at the back, the Glamour Boys risk watching valuable points slip away and with them, the momentum they fought so hard to regain.
