Bosso's Troubles Echo in Gwanda Pirates Camp

Financial and administrative challenges that have long haunted Castle Lager Premier Soccer League giants Highlanders FC appear to have found a striking resemblance in their self-styled "young brothers", Gwanda Pirates, who compete in the Central Region Division One Soccer League.

Apart from sharing the black and white colours and being community-supported clubs with large followings, both sides are now battling similar concerns over players' welfare and delayed payments.

Highlanders received a major financial boost in 2026 from businessman Wicknell Chivayo, a move expected to provide stability throughout the season. However, concerns over the club's administration resurfaced after sports journalist Tafadzwa Chigandiwa reported that Bosso players had boycotted camp ahead of their match against AGAMA Football Club over unpaid salaries.

"Highlanders FC's financial troubles continue to worsen, with reports indicating that the players have gone on strike and boycotted camp over unpaid salaries ahead of tomorrow's clash against AGAMA Football Club," reported Chigandiwa.

The incident was not the first of its kind this season, with the players reportedly staging similar actions twice before the encounter against AGAMA.

Meanwhile, a source within the Gwanda Pirates camp revealed that the Division One side is also struggling to release funds on time despite perceptions that the club adequately caters for its players.

"People think Gwanda Pirates provides what is wanted, but no, we even struggle. For the team to have the money, they really struggle to get it," said the source.

The source added that players have often continued fulfilling fixtures out of respect for the technical team.

"Players wouldn't boycott the games because of their relationship with the coach, who urges them to play for his sake. But sometimes it gets harder for the players," said the source.
