Man jailed for violent robbery

 

A man has been sentenced to five years in prison for taking part in a violent robbery in which a woman was attacked with a log and robbed while walking to work in Nyazura.

Tatenda Bundo, 26, was convicted of robbery by the Rusape Magistrates' Court. One year of his sentence was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective four-year prison term.

The court heard that on June 23, 2026, at about 6am, the 23-year-old victim was walking to work along a footpath near Hillview, Old Location, Nyazura, when Bundo and two accomplices ambushed her.

One of the attackers allegedly grabbed the woman and repeatedly struck her on the head with a log while demanding money and valuables. The group threatened to kill her and continued assaulting her to stop her from calling for help.

The trio fled with a Tecno Pop 6 cellphone, US$55 in cash, a black satchel and a pair of brown shoes, with the stolen property valued at US$120. None of the items has been recovered.

Bundo was arrested and convicted, while his two alleged accomplices remain at large.
