Amid growing pressure from supporters over CAPS United's disappointing campaign, club president Farai Jere says the solution lies in signing a proven goalscorer rather than changing the coach, whom he believes has been let down by wasteful finishing.

Speaking during an interface meeting with CAPS United supporters, Jere admitted the club has been frustrated by its inability to convert chances despite creating numerous scoring opportunities in recent matches.

The Harare giants have endured a difficult spell in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, with inconsistent results seeing them lose ground in the title race.

"We need to find the best striker who can score goals. Our midfielders are creating chances, but we are lacking a gunman who can finish those opportunities," Jere said.

The club president threw his full support behind head coach Takesure Chiragwi, who has come under increasing pressure from supporters following the team's poor run of form.

Jere dismissed calls for Chiragwi's dismissal, describing him as a tactically astute coach whose efforts have been undermined by the players' inability to convert chances.

"You can see clear chances being created that only need a striker to finish them, but they fail to do so. That is not the coach's problem; it is something we are lacking in our striking department," he said.

Jere said the current situation has made the club appreciate the qualities of former striker Brian Badza, whose eye for goal and commitment to the Green Machine remain unmatched.

"We need someone like Brian Badza, who had the hunger to score and carried the CAPS United badge in his heart. What is happening with our strikers now makes us miss Badza because he was always hungry for goals," he said.

Supporters also questioned why some players continue to be left out of the starting line-up while others retain their places despite underperforming.

However, Jere said team selection remains the sole responsibility of the coach and insisted he would not interfere with Chiragwi's tactical decisions.

"My hands are tied too. I cannot tell the coach why he is not playing a certain player because that may create confusion and division within the squad," he explained.

Looking ahead, Jere revealed that the club has already begun preparations for the 2027 season, with the recruitment of a prolific striker among its top priorities.

He disclosed that CAPS United are closely monitoring a 22-year-old Ugandan striker, although negotiations have been complicated by the player's valuation.

"Talks have already begun, and they wanted us to pay $150,000 for the youngster. At the moment, he has scored 22 league goals, and we have watched videos of him," Jere said.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Jere stressed that CAPS United belongs to its supporters and said the discussions had helped unite the club behind a common vision.

"CAPS United belongs to the fans, and we had a successful meeting with them. We now share the same vision, and we have to stand with the coach because that is the key," he said.

He also acknowledged concerns raised by supporters over the lack of communication regarding injured players, saying the technical team would improve updates to avoid unnecessary speculation.

"The biggest issue we have both discovered is that the coach has to keep updating us on injured players because sometimes we end up criticising the absence of a player without knowing that he is injured," Jere said.
