Church members contributed $1000 in an attempt to save a man who had blown his nephew's money on Aviator sports betting, popularly known as Kandege. .
Tadious Mutevhe pleaded guilty to theft of trust property when he appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody for sentencing.
The court heard that the complainant, Kudakwashe Munetsi, is Mutevhe’s nephew and had employed him as an assistant.
Prosecutor Takudzwa Mutyaviri told the court that on June 25, 2026, Munetsi gave Mutevhe US$2,100 in Harare’s central business district, instructing him to deliver the money to Takunda Mahachi in Avondale.

Instead, Mutevhe allegedly used the money for sports betting on the Aviator game.
When Munetsi later demanded the money, Mutevhe allegedly failed to account for it and gave several excuses before disappearing from Harare.
Munetsi subsequently reported the matter to police, leading to Mutevhe’s arrest.
The court heard that US$1,000 has since been recovered after church members contributed towards repayment on Mutevhe’s behalf, leaving US$1,100 outstanding.
