ZANU PF has moved its former Secretary for Science and Technology, Obert Moses Mpofu, to the party’s Council of Elders in a leadership reshuffle announced on Thursday.
The changes, announced by the party’s Secretary for Information and Publicity and spokesperson, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, also see businessman and Senator Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei appointed to the newly designated position of Secretary for Economic Affairs and Investment Promotion.
In another change, Mayor Wadyajena has been appointed a member of the party’s Central Committee.
Announcing the changes in a statement dated October 15, 2026, Mutsvangwa said President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in his capacity as ZANU PF First Secretary, had made the appointments through the party’s Secretary-General, Advocate Jacob Mudenda.
The statement, titled Assignment and Re-assignment of Party Cadres to the Central Committee, Council of Elders and Politburo, said the appointments were made in accordance with the party constitution.
“I, as Secretary for Information and Publicity and Party Spokesperson, announce that Party First Secretary, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, through the Secretary-General, Cde. Advocate Jacob F. N. Mudenda, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Party,” Mutsvangwa said.
He cited Article 7, which deals with the appointment of Central Committee members; Article 8, which concerns appointments to the Council of Elders; and Article 9, which provides for the appointment of Politburo members.
