A Budiriro 2 man who took phones from a business colleague wanting to service his clients and promised that he would return the money after selling but never did has been arraigned before the courts.
Thinias Murenga, 37, appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Court accused of theft of trust property as defined in section 113 (2) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23.
The court heard that sometime in November 2022, Murenga approached the complainant, Shelton Jameson, who is in the business of buying and selling cell phones.
He told him that he had clients who wanted to buy phones, a Huawei Nova Si valued at US$200 and a Huawei Nova Y70 Plus valued at US$170.
Jameson gave Murenga the cell phones and he promised to return with the money for the phones before day end on the same day.
Murenga sold the phones, but never returned to Jameson with the money.
To this day Murenga has been promising to give Jameson his money though he acknowledged that he had sold the phones.
Jameson tried to call Murenga on his phone, but he was no longer answering and had moved from his previous workplace where Jameson used to locate him.
The value of the phones that were taken from Jameson is US$370.
Murenga appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi who gave him a bail of ZWL$50 000.
He was ordered to appear in court on March 29, 2023.
