Zim-Belarus partnership at a new interaction level: Ambassador

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to South Africa and Zimbabwe, Aleksandr Sidoruk, believes Belarus and Zimbabwe are moving to a new level of interaction. He made the remarks while commenting on the recent three-day state visit to Zimbabwe by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko.

During the visit, a number of agreement intended to benefit either country were penned.

“We have a comprehensive approach to cooperation with South Africa in general. It is clear that Zimbabwe is a landlocked country, deliveries there require the use of major seaports, first of all, in Mozambique and, secondly, on the east coast of South Africa.

“Some goods, however, can be delivered via the Atlantic, through the Namibian port of Walvis Bay or Cape Town, one of the largest ports in Africa in general, including the Republic of South Africa," said Ambassador Sidoruk.

“I would call the main result of the visit the transition to a new level of interaction between Belarus and Zimbabwe.

“We are now moving from pinpoint cooperation in a few areas, even if very important, to a full-scale comprehensive partnership after all the agreements we have reached. The talks and business events showed mutual interest and helped us all identify further practical steps in a number of areas,” he added.
