Machete gang pounces on 2 in Murambinda, steals over US$500 and cellphones

Manicaland police have launched a manhunt for a five-member machete gang which pounced on two different people on the same night in Murambinda, Buhera last Thursday.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed both incidents, saying the gang got away with over US$500 and cellphones, adding that no arrests or property recovery have been made so far.

“On February 2 around midnight, a group of five masked men broke into Joseph Vhatamu’s home near Murambinda town. They assaulted him before making good their escape with over US$500 and two cellphones,” said Insp Muzondo.

He added that during the same night, the gang also attacked Clayton Gwama, who was on his way to Gurajena shops. Gwama was robbed of his cellphone and US$40 before the assailants disappeared into the night.

Both cases were reported at Murambinda Police Station and Insp Muzondo appealed to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the gang to report to their nearest police station.
