A Harare magistrate has advised a married woman to develop a working relationship with her pastor that does not cause problems in her marriage.
Ruth Jack appeared at the Harare Civil Court accusing Danger Wisikesi of being a violent husband.
"On 6 December he assaulted me alleging that I am having an affair with someone from the church.
"I reported the matter to the police and they counseled us, but ever since there is no longer peace. He is always insulting me in front of the children," she said.
Wisikesi admitted that he has been physical with his wife, but stopped short of beating her, as she claims.
"That is not true, on December 6, l never assaulted her. l shook her and later left her l have always told myself that l would never assault her," he said.
Wisikesi said he objects to the overwhelming presence of his wife’s pastor in their marriage.
"The pastor from Simbarashe Apostolic Church is always at my house. I come home late and he is always at my house.
"He calls and they always communicate. They visit different branches together," he said.
He said he has held his peace, giving time to show the truth of the matter.
"This other day l came home around 5 minutes to 10 in the evening and she was not at home, the children were alone. I asked them and they told me that their mother had gone with the pastor.
"I asked her around 5 minutes past 10 and she told me she had accompanied, the man of God," he said.
He said when Jack finally got home she woke the children up saying he was assaulting her and later gave him a letter from the police on December 7, 2022.
Wisikesi said the following day the pastor came to the couple’s home saying he had heard that his name had come up in the couple’s issues. The pastor said that Wisikesi should go to his house.
"I did not go and the pastor started sending messages threatening me saying if l did not go to his house he would assault me," he said.
Jack said she had a good relationship with the pastor, but the two were not in love.
"He comes to my home and accompany me to the mountain," she told the court.
She also said Wisikesi had approved her church involvement.
"He was asked in church and he gave me permission to participate in the activities,” she said.
But magistrate Tamara Chibindi who presided over the matter did not find merit in Jack’s application and dismissed it.
She instead advised Jack to develop a working relationship with her pastor that takes cognizance of the fact that Jack is a married woman.
"You can meet at church not for him to come at your house, you are supposed to go to him, not him coming to you," she said.
