South Africa-based Zimbabwean businessman Frank Buyanga Sadiqi will languish in prison further after his application against denial of bail on charges of breaking South African immigration laws was thrown out.

Buyanga has been in jail since his arrest on November 10 for child trafficking, and was further remanded in prison to March 7, while he was remanded to March 27 on the kidnapping charges.

The Randburg Magistrates Court in Johannesburg granted Buyanga R150 000 bail on allegations of kidnapping his son in Harare in 2020 and on charges of contempt of court.

However, he did not test freedom as he was rearrested on charges of breaching South African immigration laws.

South African authorities wanted time to also verify Buyanga’s identity documents after it was found that his South African identity documents showed he was born in Zimbabwe, yet his Zimbabwean passport indicated he was born in the United Kingdom.

One of the reasons why Buyanga was denied bail is that he has two convictions in the United Kingdom and that he was using three different Zimbabwean passports.

The businessman has not collected yet the UK passport, which he applied for.
