WorldRemit and Hello Paisa partner to make transfers to Zimbabwe easier

WorldRemit customers are now able to collect cash pickups from over 120 Hello Paisa branches across Zimbabwe bringing the total number of collection points to over 640.

This follows a deal between the digital remittance companies launched on 27 July.

Director Anglophone Africa at WorldRemit Darryl Pietersen said this move will serve Zimbabweans in the diaspora and abroad will all benefit from the new partnerships:

" This partnership allows both the Zimbabwean diaspora and recipients in Zimbabwe to send and receive remittances seamlessly, making financial processes for all as smooth as possible."

Far from moving out of Zimbabwe as some social media analysts presumed after WorldRemit announced that it was discontinuing bank transfers to the country in June this year, the company says this is a key market.

“Zimbabwe is a prominent receive market in Southern Africa,” said Pietersen.

A recent WorldRemit report says as of 1 June 2022, users globally had sent nearly USD200 GBP to Zimbabwe this year.

In 2020 Zimbabwe’s diaspora remittance were at USD1.002 billion and the figure jumped up 43 percent in 2021.

Hello Paisa managing director Sayjil Magan said the partnership with WorldRemit feeds directly into Hello Paisa’s vision of financial inclusivity.

"With financial inclusion and driving the costs of remittances down as cornerstones of our vision, through this partnership, we believe that we will spare Zimbabwean recipients of remittances the hassle to travel long distances to collect their remittances as they will now have access to receive guaranteed US Dollars at any one of our 120 branches in Zimbabwe," said Magan.

Some Zimbabweans receiving money from the diaspora have had to content with long queues, expensive travel and at times cash shortages at remittance points.

Hello Paisa is in over 150 countries globally while WorldRemit has sending facility in 50 countries to 130 receiver countries.
