In a divorce that by the stature of the couple involved may rank as the most prominent for 2023, the late former President Mugabe’s daughter, Bona, is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring her children have the best care after their parents’ break-up.
Bona, married to Simba Chikore for nine years yesterday, Tuesday March 7, filed divorce papers in the High citing “irreconcilable differences.”
While sources attribute the separation to infidelity, as may be justified by Bona’s decision to move out of their Mount Pleasant matrimonial home to stay at her parents’ home in Borrowdale, she has put forth demands that will cushion the couple’s three children until time they reach majority status age or become self-sustainable.
As part of the children’s maintenance, Bona wants Simba to pay US$2 700 per child per month, which adds up to a total of US$8 100.
“In the event of the granting of the Divorce Decree by the honourable court it will be just and equitable that the Defendant be ordered to pay maintenance for the minor children in the sum of USD2 700 per child monthly until attaining of majority status or they become self-sustaining whichever occurs first,” her court papers indicated.
Through her lawyers, she argued her husband has the capacity to meet her demand because he has business interests. She also wants the children to be in her full custody, with their father enjoying visiting access during alternate weekends.
Bona, for the moment seems content in having the divorce decree issued first, that she says the matter of sharing of property the two acquired together can be discussed at another time.
