Zimbabwe Boxing Federation technical director and National Army boxing coach Steven Masiyambumbi has been invited to officiate at the International Boxing Association (IBA) Women’s World Boxing championships to be held in New Delhi, India, between March 13-27.

Speaking to Zimbabwe Now, Masiyambumbi who is now a holder of IBA 3-star certificate said he is delighted to have been invited to officiate at the championships.

“I am very happy that I have been nominated to officiate at the global games. I am hoping to raise the Zimbabwean flag higher.

“I just want to appreciate all the support I am getting from the government, Zimbabwe National Army, Sports and Recreation Commission and Ministry of Sports, Youth, Arts and Recreation. I just want to thank God because it is by his will that this has been made possible,” he said.

This is the third such assignment for Masiyambumbi since he obtained the 3-star course badge which is the highest qualification of officiating in IBA.

In Africa they are just three officials who have been invited, namely one from Tunisia and the another from Algeria.

Masiyambumbi did his 3-star course in Dubai in 2001 and he was among the few officials who managed to pass it.

In 2021, he represented the country in the 2021 IBA Men's World Boxing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, and in 2022 he was also invited to officiate at the World Women Championships held in Turkey.
