Potter Confirmed New Chelsea Head Coach

Graham Potter

Following the unceremonious sacking of Thomas Tuchel by the new Chelsea management, the club has roped in Graham Potter as the new head coach at Stamford Bridge.

He assumed duties today Thursday, September 8.

Potter (47) has formerly been in charge of Brighton & Hove Albion, but the two parties have a release clause in place for Potter.

Tuchel, who had an unforgettable relationship with Chelsea (won 60 matches; drew 24 and lost 16), was dismissed after the club lost 1-0 in  a Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb.

This was despite the fact that at a winning rate of 60%, he overally did a better job than his three predecessors at the Blues.

The development means the new gaffer ought to hit the ground running as the Blues have a weekend derby fixture with Fulham.

Todd Boehly, the Chelsea co-owner was leading the search for a Tuchel replacement and he gave the thumbs up for Potter as his first choice.

“Boehly always wanted a swift appoint, and that is how things have worked out,” a source inside the club said.

The other choices included Zinedine Zidane, Diego Simeone, Ruben Amorim and Mauricio Pochettino who recently bade bye to Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, Brighton have begun their own search for a replacement.
