A Chitungwiza man has appeared in court for who was using fake proof of payments to insure 74 vehicles to pay for vehicle insurance. Total value prejudiced was ZWL $24 597 950.
Tadiwanashe Denzel Gomba, 20, was at the Harare Magistrates' Court accused of fraud, contravening Section 136 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9.23.
The complainant was Champions Insurance Company represented by head of risk and compliance officer Alvin Pedzisai.
On March 8, 2023, Champions Insurance Company realised that one of their sales people had a shortfall of ZWL$13 128 533.69 for February 2023.

It was discovered that Gomba had submitted fake POPs totaling ZWL$6 227 509.11 for 22 cars for January, ZWL$13 336 144.05 for 37 cars in February and ZWL$5 034 297.64 for 15 cars.
Gomba had been recording non-existent bank accounts on his fake POPs.
On March 17, 2023, Gomba sent a proof of payment to Champions Insurance Company.
He then told Champions' agent that he was going to collect the car license and insurance disks in town.
Gomba was arrested whilst collecting disks.
Magistrate Dennis Mangosi remanded Gomba in custody pending bail application.
