A thief from Chiweshe broke into his girlfriend’s landlord’s house and stole cellphones and money after failing to locate his girlfriend.
Takunda Banda, 20, of Mupandenyama Village, in Chiweshe, Mashonaland West Province, appeared at the Concession Magistrates’ Courts yesterday facing unlawful entry charges.
He pleaded guilty before magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who sentenced him to an effective 18-month jail term.
In pleading guilty, Banda told the magistrate that he stole the property because his girlfriend was not on the premise.
“Your worship l had come for quality time with my girlfriend. So, when l failed to locate her, l then thought of stealing the property,” Banda said.
Prosecuting, Precious Khanye, said that on March 16, Banda went to Anold Tauya’s house, where his girlfriend also resides.
He could not locate his girlfriend and he broke into Tauya’s house where he stole two mobile phones and US$260 and went away.
A police report was filed, leading to Banda’s arrest.
