A policeman officer stationed at Mutare Traffic has been arrested after she was found in unlawful possession of 100 grammes of dagga.
Constable Elda Pinduko’s call to Saymore Maramba of Chikanga, who had been arrested for unlawful entry and theft sold her out, leading to her arrest.
Pinduko called Maramba, telling him that she had 100 grammes of dagga which was ready for collection while detectives followed through the conversation.
The detectives, with the assistance of Maramba, arranged a meeting with Pinduko.
When they met her, she was in possession of the dagga.
The matter came to light when Pinduko appeared before Mutare magistrate, Perseverance Makhala, recently over illegal possession of dagga.
Pinduko pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody to April 24 on $20 000 bail.
Prosecuting, Joyce Tinarwo told the court that on March 22, police from Chikanga arrested Maramba for unlawful entry and theft.
As they were interviewing Maramba, his phone rang and police officers became suspicious and monitored the conversation.
“They realised that the person who was calling Maramba was a police officer. She revealed to Maramba in the conversation that she now had the ‘stuff’. The police officers established that the ‘stuff’ were drugs, but they could not ascertain the type of drug.
“They drove to Mutare Central Business District using Maramba’s car. Pinduko went to where Maramba and the police officers were parked and produced a plastic bag which was packed with dagga. Pinduko handed over the dagga to Maramba and she was arrested,” said Tinarwo.
