Highlanders successfully defended their Independence Cup after beating Dynamos 5-3 on penalties in a celebrations match played at Mount Darwin High School, Mashonaland Central province, on Tuesday.
Last year, Bosso clinched the invitational trophy when they beat the same rivals 1-0. The two clubs will this week clash in a premier soccer league derby which had to be postponed owing to the Independence celebrations tie in which they were drawn.
The Tuesday clash had ended goalless after 90 minutes.
Highlanders, for a 70-minute duration, were forced to play with 10 men following the red carding of Andrew Mbeba for dangerous play.
Dynamos thought they had broken the deadlock on the hour mark when Eli Ilunga found the back of the net off an Elvis Moyo cross but were denied by the offside flag, much to the relief of their opponents.
The Harare premiership side will live to regret failing to use its numerical advantage during regulation time.
