The Passengers Association of Zimbabwe has said relevant authorities should investigate illegal bottle stores operating at bus termini in Harare.

The unregulated establishments not only promote alcohol abuse but also endanger the lives of passengers and drivers alike.

The association said they are particularly concerned with the ones at the 4th Street bus terminus and at Copacabana.

“PAZ calls on the relevant authorities to investigate and put an end to the issuance of licenses to these illegal bottle stores.

“We urge the government to take immediate action by implementing stringent alcohol policies and restricting the density of alcohol outlets.

“The association has received numerous complaints from passengers who have witnessed drivers consuming alcohol before or during their trips. This reckless behaviour puts the lives of innocent passengers at risk and undermines the safety and security of our roads.

PAZ strongly believes that responsible alcohol consumption should be promoted and measures taken to reduce the number of road accidents caused by drunk driving.

The association also urged the government to prioritise the safety and well-being of Zimbabwean citizens by taking decisive action against illegal bottle stores and ensuring compliance with alcohol regulations.

PAZ advised the public to report any illegal bottle stores operating at bus termini and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to help put an end to this dangerous practice.
