The Passengers Association of Zimbabwe has called for the removal of vendors at bus shelters around the city.
PAZ said the takeover of bus shelters by vendors has resulted in clashes with commuters and is causing chaotic disorder.
“We call on the relevant authorities to take action to remove the vendors from bus shelters. This is particularly prevalent at Simon Muzenda Bus Terminus, formerly known as the 4th bus termini, where passengers are facing serious challenges in accessing safe and secure transportation.
“The situation at Simon Muzenda Bus Terminus has become increasingly untenable, with vendors encroaching on passenger areas and creating a hazardous environment for all.
“PAZ has received numerous reports from commuters about the challenges they face, including physical altercations and difficulty accessing transportation services due to the presence of vendors.
“PAZ would like to remind all vendors that they have a responsibility to operate within the confines of the law and respect the rights of other citizens.
“We urge them to refrain from encroaching on passenger areas and instead operate from designated vending sites.
“PAZ remains committed to advocating for the rights and interests of passengers across Zimbabwe and will continue to monitor the situation at bus shelters closely,” PAZ said in a statement.
