A Mutare thief who stole a Toyata Wish was nabbed while driving it in the city.
Emmanuel Chidawanyika, 24, of Morningside, Mutare appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Courts accused of theft of a motor vehicle.
The complainant in the matter is Stewart Phiri, 25, of Kuwadzana 5 in Harare.
The State, alleges that on April 13, 2023, at around 2000 hours at OK Kuwadzana Shopping Center car park, Phiri parked his Toyota Wish, black in colour, and secured it by closing and locking all the doors and windows. He then went to his house.
On April 13, 2023 at around 2100 hours Chidawanyika and his accomplice who is still at large, Tatenda Husvu, saw the car and came up with a way of stealing it.
They went to the car park and used a duplicate key to unlock the doors, drove the car and went away unnoticed.
On April 14, 2023 at around 0600 hours, Phiri went to the car park to get his car and he discovered that it was missing.
He made a report at Kuwadzana Police Station.
On May 14, 2023 detectives from CID VTS Harare were informed that the stolen Toyota Wish was spotted driven by Chidawanyika at Moto Moto Shopping Center in Mutare.
They went there and arrested Chidawanyika who then led to the recovery of the car. The total value of the car is $5 500.
Chidawanyika was ordered to appear in court on May 23 for bail application.
