Legendary jazz musician and producer, Kelly Rusike, died in Harare on Wednesday after battling diabetes.
Rusike was leader of a famous local jazz outfit trading as Jazz Invitation, which performed in Europe and at home together with the likes of the late legend Oliver Mtukudzi, Jimi Dludlu and Rozala Miller. He was also the owner of Shed Studios which was responsible for the production of music, adverts and jingles.
Likened to the Jackson Five, Kelly and his brothers back in the 80s and 90s featured in a number of commercials, among them one for Ngwerewere.
He is survived by wife Yolanda, children Courtney and Cole and a grandson.
A friend, Jules Julie Sandi, paying to the late jazz maestro, wrote on her Face Book page:
“Kelly Rusike, I woke up this morning to the news of your passing. I'm still trying to digest this all. You were not only a good friend but you were the first to convince me to do my first TV advert through your production company for Karinga.
“This is a really sad time for me. I knew what you were fighting (diabetes) but I also relaxed because I knew you were managing it.
Go well, may your dear soul rest in eternal peace.”

“Another African Jazz bassist has gone to the other realm. It's a dark week for the African Jazz fraternity. On Monday we lost South African Jazz bassist Musa Manzini.
“This morning, I was informed by Zimbabwean Jazz bassist Enock Piroro about the demise of our good friend, Jazz Invitation front man and legendary Zimbabwean Jazz bassist Kelly Rusike.
“Rest easy Kelly Rusike. However, your music lives on........the journey continues.”
