Zimbabwe international Marvelous Nakamba will auction the kit he wore during Luton Town’s penalty shootout victory against Coventry City at Wembley Stadium last Saturday in an effort to raise funds for charity.
Nakamba played a key role for Luton Town as they secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history after beating Coventry City 5-6 on penalties in the Championship play-off final.
After impressing during regulation play and extra time Nakamba held his nerve to convert a spot kick during the penalty shootout.
In the end, Luton Town converted all of their six spot kicks to secure the victory which means they will now compete in the top flight of English football for the first time since 1992.
Nakamba will auction his kit from the match with the proceeds going to the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation.
MNF made the announcement on their social media handles Twitter and Facebook.
“Marvelous Nakamba Championship winning kit up for grabs to the highest bidder starting at US$5000 Place your bids in our inbox. Proceeds go to Marvelous Nakamba Foundation,” the Foundation wrote.
Luton Town has already launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Marvelous Nakamba’s philanthropic work in Zimbabwe.
The midfielder has already announced he will be using the pre-season to push charity work back home through his foundation.
The Marvelous Nakamba Foundation was established in 2019, as a way of giving back to the community, using the power of sport and education to uplift the lives of underprivileged children.
Nakamba, through his foundation, pays school fees for over 1 500 learners in Zimbabwe.
The midfielder, who is still contracted to Aston Villa, hosted an Under-17 boy’s invitational tournament in Bulawayo last year.
He is also in the process of constructing a state-of-the-art Nakamba Sports Complex in Bulawayo, which will host facilities for various sporting codes.
