Zimbabwe positions itself at India business conclave

Zimbabwe’s envoy to India says the country will be utilising the 18th Edition of the Confederation of Indian Industry-Exim Bank Conclave on India-Africa Growth Partnership to position itself for synergies with Indian investors.

“India is the fifth largest economy in the world it is the most populous in the world the opportunities are abundant, so we need to identify target areas and locating Zimbabwe as a key partner for India will be carried in a targeted manner,” Dr Godfrey Chipare said.

Dr Chipare said Zimbabwe has already identified the areas that it will focus on during the conference.

“India is a key player in the pharmaceutical area, there are also companies interested in setting up a diagnostic centre across urban medical centres as well as areas of infrastructure development, hence the involvement of the NRZ to this conference,” he added.

From June 14 to 16, 42 African countries and 800 business executives will meet in New Dehli, India to look at ways of diversifying areas of cooperation in different fields, including health, infrastructure development and trade

Indian ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr. Vijay Khanduja told Zim Now that the two countries are seeing growth in bilateral relations with room for more partnerships.

“The last one year has seen the highest number of bilateral visits at the ministerial level and this has thrown up new areas of cooperation.  We must endeavour to capitalise on the new potential arising from the visits,” said the ambassador.

The ambassador said the relationship between Zimbabwe and India is overarching, encompassing areas of health care, education, energy, water and agriculture, to name a few.

He said it also includes developmental projects such as Indo-Zim technological centres, the Africa India Vocational Training Centre, which have been set up with grant from India.
