Terrence Dzukamanja and Orlando Pirates currently on a football break after securing a domestic cup double in Jose Riveiro’s debut campaign, are set to go to Spain for their pre-season training.
After lifting the MTN8 trophy in November, they added the Nedbank Cup last month, beating Sekhukhune United 2-1 in a hard-fought final.
Overall Pirates played 39 games in the 2022/23 campaign, winning 24 and losing eight – all of them in the league, where they ended up in second place to qualify for the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.
According to sources, the club has asked its players to get visas for a pre-season camp in Spain between 9 and 20 July, with coach Riveiro likely playing a big part in the decision to head to Europe.
The 47-year-old was born in Vigo and worked as youth coach at Celta Vigo between 2011 and 2014 before moving to Finland. Assistant coach Sergio Almenara and Fitness Trainer Michel Bellver Esteve are also from Spain.
