Bulawayo residents laud information dissemination programme

The government has been applauded for embarking on the national information dissemination programme, which seeks to highlight, promote and build confidence while enhancing stakeholder participation and contribution towards the implementation of development projects.

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development took its National Development Strategy One dissemination programme to Bulawayo last week

The week-long programme started in Luveve high-density suburb, with residents welcoming the initiative meant to help ordinary citizens understand programmes being undertaken by the second republic to develop the country.

“We have always heard about what the government is doing and, in some instances, we do not believe it but having people come to the grassroots and talk to us the way they did, we are happy and now we understand where we are going as a nation,” noted a satisfied resident.

Another resident chipped in, “When l saw the truck l wanted to go and understand what is happening and today was an eye-opener for me as a young person because l now know what government is doing and aims to take the nation to.

“After this, l can now participate and l feel part of the developmental agenda that the government is taking,” added another.

The format used by the ministry in the dissemination of the economic blueprint was lauded for being apolitical.

“We welcome the initiative as people of Bulawayo because it is apolitical. When we, as people in politics, speak of the work of the Second Republic, citizens do not believe us, they think we are pushing the party’s narrative, but when civil servants are the ones who are taking this to the people and interacting with them on such levels, people can they see the vision of the nation,” highlighted Senator Molly Mpofu.

The main objective of the NDS1 information dissemination exercise is to promote shared understanding, build confidence and enhance stakeholder participation and contribution in the implementation of development projects.

The Second Republic has embarked on a number of infrastructural development projects such as the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme, Hwange Thermal Power Station Expansion Project and the Gwayi-Shangani Lake, which is set to address perennial water shortages in Bulawayo while creating a green belt along the pipeline, among other projects.
