“Del Boy” Inks Contract For Trilogy with “The Gypsy King”

Zimbabwe-born British heavyweight pugilist Dereck “Del Boy” Chisora looks set for a trilogy with World Number One, Tyson Fury, following rumours the former received a contract last Friday for yet another dance in the ring with the “Gypsy King” (as Fury is known in the boxing circles).

“On Friday, Derek Chisora received a contract for the Tyson Fury fight, so have other fighters,” said Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn who laid blame on Fury for twice pulling the plug on a fight with his boxer for the much anticipated “Battle of the Brits.”

“Don’t blame Anthony Joshua for Tyson Fury pulling the plug twice on this fight. As far as we’re concerned, the fight’s off. I mean, we’re happy to continue the discussions, we haven’t had any of those discussions,” Hearn said.

“People surely aren’t thick enough to (not) see that Tyson Fury has called two deadlines on the fight with Joshua and the fight has passed in Tyson Fury’s deadlines.

“People talk about putting up barriers, we sent our final draft contract back to sign. They want to appoint their partner as an arbitrator, that sort of stuff doesn’t work. We get another deadline, Tyson Fury says, ‘We’re telling you now, the fight is off unless you sign (today),” Hearn said.

With the Joshua bout cancelled, Chisora’s third chance to beat Fury is almost certain.

Chisora and Fury first faced off in July 2011 for the WBO eliminator and Fury carried the day, posting a unanimous decision triumph over Chisora.

Their second meeting in November 2014 ended with “Del Boy’s” camp throwing in the towel in the 10th round.

And now the two, who both had an unblemished record (14-0) before their first fight, will trade leather for a third time at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff, on December 3.
