5 killed in Stallion Cruise bus accident

At least five people were killed yesterday morning in a fatal road traffic accident when a Stallion Cruise bus overturned near Masumo Bridge, Samende area in Binga.

The bus was travelling from Siabuwa to Binga.

The number of people injured is yet to be ascertained.

In a similar incident, seven people were reported dead while two were injured on Friday in a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 18- kilometre peg along Harare-Shamva Road.

A Nissan Caravan vehicle with eight passengers on board veered off the road to the left before overturning several times and landing on its roof.

The bodies of the victims were taken to Shamva Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured are admitted at Bindura Hospital.

Meanwhile, three pedestrians were killed while walking by the road side along Natview-Hobhouse after being hit by an Ateco Benz lorry which had veered off the road.

The driver and two passengers who were on board as well as a pedestrian were injured.

The bodies of the victim were taken to Victoria Chitepo Hospital for post mortem while the injured were admitted at the same hospital.

The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency recorded at least 12 588 road traffic accidents during the first quarter of this year with almost 500 people losing their lives.

Of the 12 588 road traffic accidents reported during the quarter, 275 were fatal, with the month of February recording the highest number of fatalities.
