The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed a horrific head-on collision that claimed 15 lives this afternoon.
The accident occurred at around 4:00pm along the Harare-Masvingo Road, near the 53-kilometre peg.
A Sprinter kombi travelling towards Masvingo collided with a truck that was travelling in the opposite direction.
Police are still at the scene, and details regarding the cause of the crash are yet to be released.
"The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred this afternoon at around 1600 hours at the 53-kilometre peg along Harare-Masvingo Road in which 15 people were killed after a Sprinter kombi travelling towards Masvingo was involved in a head-on collision with a truck travelling towards Harare.
“Police are currently at the scene. More details to be released in due course,” the ZRP confirmed on its official X handle.
Meanwhile, the ZRP is investigating a separate hit-and-run incident that happened yesterday on the Harare-Bulawayo Road in Whitecliff.
An unidentified man was struck by a motorist who fled the scene after the 1:00pm accident.
The police are also investigating a murder case in Westgate. 26-year-old Walter Zvarevashe was found dead with a head wound along Lomagundi Road yesterday.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding these incidents to come forward and report to their nearest police station.
