ED honours Dr who discovered Covid-19 variant

Dr Sikhulile Moyo, who discovered the omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus in November 2021, was one of the four recipients of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s awards for outstanding service to the nation at 2023 Honours and Awards ceremony held during the President Mnangagwa honoured Dr Sikhulile Moyo with the Order of the Great Zimbabwe Silver award for his breakthrough discovery in the fight against the pandemic.

Dr Agnes Mahomva was awarded the Order of the Star of Zimbabwe -Silver - for the national management of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ambassador Mary Mubi was honoured with the Order of the Star Zimbabwe-Gold award, her exceptional performance in the field of public service, defence and security.

The president awarded the Jairos Jiri Humanitarian Award to his wife’s Angel of Hope of Foundation in recognition of the organisations work in fighting child abuse and eliminating drug abuse, among other social ills.

The Mnangangwa administration introduced an Honours and Awards Ceremony to honour Zimbabweans who have played a key role in inspiring others and developing the country.
