A used car importation agent has failed to account for a client’s US$4 944.
Virimai Svotwo, 38, of Unit J, Seke, Chitungwiza, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged with fraud.
The complainant in this matter is Lloyd Ngadze, 27 of Kuwadzana Phase 3.
The State, through prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, alleges that on May 2023, Ngadze decided to import a Mazda CX5 and approached Svotwo in his capacity as a Be Forward agent.
Svotwo told Ngadze that the buying price for the car he wanted was US$5 400.
On June 2, 2023, Ngadze went to Svotwo’s office at corner Robson Manyika Street and Angwa Street, Harare where he deposited US$4 944 cash.
Svotwo wrote an affidavit confirming the transaction and stated that the car would be delivered within six weeks.
After three weeks, Ngadze noticed that the car he had chosen was still labelled “for sale” meaning that Svotwo had not paid for it.
He asked Svotwo who gave him an invoice for US$4 872 dated June 16, 2023.
Svotwo convinced Ngadze that he had made the payment.
After six weeks lapsed with no car delivered, Ngadze engaged Svotwo on several times but nothing materialised.
Svotwo gave several excuses and eventually became elusive causing Ngadze to file a police report July 10, 2023.
As a result of Svotwo’s actions, Ngadze lost US$4 944.
Mangosi ordered Svotwo to deposit US$100 as bail.
He will appear in court on September 18 for his trial date.
