A man, who is employed at the President’s Department, has been arraigned before the courts accused of fraud.

Godfrey Bvanura, 65, of Mufakose, in Harare, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing fraud allegations.

The complainant in this matter is the President’s Department, represented by Felistas Chinyoka, 63, a senior transport officer.

The State, through prosecutor Pardon Dziva, alleges that sometime around September 29, 2023, the Central Vehicle Registry, Harare received an application for number plates for a Renault Duster allegedly owned by President’s Department from a client.

CVR and processed the registration book and number plates.

It is alleged that on October 11, 2023, Bvanura met one George Madziva, alleged to be a member of the President’s Department at the State House Research department in Harare Central Business District.

Madziva then told Bvanura that he wanted his company to go to CVR to collect number plates.

Bvanura then allegedly teamed up with Madziva and went to CVR but were not given the registration book and number plates since the Deputy Registrar, was not there.

On October 12, 2023, Bvanura teamed up with Madziva, who is still at large, and went to CVR in a bid to collect the number plates and that is when the Deputy Registrar alerted the President’s Department.

President’s Department then alerted the Criminal Investigation Department, who arrested Bvanura.

A car registration book for a Renault Duster vehicle registration number AGF 8821 in the name of the President’s Department, which was indicated as the one whose number plates were to be collected by Bvanura and Madziva, was recovered.

Gofa ordered Bvanura to appear in court on October 20.
