President Emmerson Mnangagwa has praised members of his Cabinet for their unity of purpose and hard work over the las five years.
In his closing remarks at the end of the session yesterday, President Mnangagwa said the hard work his team exhibited has seen government delivering on its mandate, with unprecedented results across the socio- economic spectrum.
“The transformation, industrialisation and modernisation of the economy and upliftment of livelihoods towards the attainment of Vision 2030 of an empowered and prosperous upper middle-income society is evident,” Mnangagwa said.
The President added that the gaps that were identified during the five years, the observations, recommendations and areas needing improvement will be attended to in the future towards the realisation of optimal performance across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
The President also heaped praises on Zimbabweans for ensuring peace in the run-up to the harmonised Elections due on Wednesday where people will not only vote in the presidential but also the National Assembly and local authority polls.
“As I conclude, let me once again congratulate the people of our great country for the obtaining peace, unity, harmony and tolerance that continues to be exhibited throughout our land. It is my exhortation that this peace must be guarded and maintained throughout this period,” he said.
Some of the key performance areas that the Mnangagwa administration saw through include the completion of the rehabilitation of Hwange Thermal Power Station Units 7 and 8 that have added over 600 MW to the national grid. The development has seen the punishing load shedding going away with industrial productivity improving as power challenges were compromising operations.
Road rehabilitation and dualisation projects were also undertaken with the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge highway topping the list of the projects involving roads.
The Chivhu Dam in Chivhu, Marovanyati in Buhera and the ongoing work on the Gwayi-Shangani Dam are expected to transform the lives of the people in these areas.
Several other infrastructural projects, including the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, the ongoing work at the Kariba South Hydro Power Station and the Mbudzi Interchange are some of government’s current key projects.
