Armed robbers struck at a service station in Kuwadzana, Harare this week and stole cash, solar batteries and a cellphone.

Police confirmed the incident on their official X wall.

“Police in Harare are investigating a case of robbery which occurred at a service station in Kuwadzana 6. Four suspects armed with iron rods attacked the security guard who was on duty at the service station before blowing open the safe using an explosive.

“The suspects stole US$518 cash, two solar batteries and a cellphone,” said the law enforcement agents.

The police urged anyone with information to report at any nearest police station.

Service stations have for long been targets for armed robbers and they have lost varying amounts of cash. Last year, a gang of 12 armed robbers raided a service station in Kwekwe and stole US$600 000 and R58 430. The robbers, who were armed with a pistol and an AK47 assault rifle, attacked two security guards manning the premises before tying their hands and legs with shoe laces.

Also in August last year, four suspected armed robbers tied up a security guard at a service station in Bulawayo before filling a drum with nearly 200 litres of fuel and making good their escape.

In March this year, FSI Service Station along the Harare-Gweru highway lost US$1 200, cellphones and a laptop among other gadgets after a four-man gang robbed the outlet around 9pm.

The four-member gang parked their vehicle few metres from the garage before a man parked a silver Honda Fit and requested to buy fuel using a jerry can.

While he was being attended to, he produced a pistol and force-marched the employees into an office where he demanded the safe keys. They then stole US$1 200, cellphones from the employees and a laptop before fleeing in their get-away car.
