Three people, who put groceries on top of 33.285 kilograms of dagga that was coming from South Africa in order to conceal the drug, have appeared in court.
Brenda Chivayo, 32, Chitungwiza, and Stella Musokeri, 49, both from Chitungwiza and Unique Kasenza, 32, of Egypt, Highfield appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of unlawfully dealing with dangerous drugs.
The State alleges that on September 24, at around 1200 hours, the police were informed by bus manager of Best Logistics that they were suspecting dangerous drugs in the luggage they had transported from South Africa to Zimbabwe that was in two by 60 litres of black plastic containers.
At around 1600 hours, the police went to High Glen Bus Terminus and found people offloading their luggage and noone collected the two containers.
The police engaged the manager after realising that everyone had left the place and the containers were still there.
They then opened the containers in the presence of the manager and the bus crew and discovered that both containers had dagga which was covered by groceries.
The police took containers to Harare Provincial Police Intelligence waiting to arrest of the owners.
The following day, at around 1400 hours, the three accused went to the bus crew and demanded their consignment.
The crew went with the accused to Glen Norah Police Station and they said they were following up on their luggage which had groceries and dagga.
The manager then told the Harare Provincial Police Intelligence Unit who then gave instructions to the Glen Norah police leading to their arrest.
The dagga was weighed and it recorded 33.285 kilogrammes with a street value of $27 000 000.
Chivayo and Kasenza were remanded in custody to tomorrow for bail application. Musokeri was coming from home.
