Highfield man denied bail after allegedly raping mentally-challenged woman

A man, who allegedly took advantage and raped a mentally-challenged woman, has been denied bail

Paul Madhefu, 43, of Western Triangle, Highfield in Harare appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa at the Harare Magistrates' Courts accused of rape.

He was ordered to approach the High Court for bail and will appear in court on November 14.

The complainant in this matter is a 33-year-old woman.

The State, through prosecutor Pardon Dziva, alleges that on October 22, at around 1500 hours, the complainant was on her way home from her sister's house in Highfield.

Along the way, she came across Madhefu, who lured her to his place of residence.

When she reached the place, she noticed that there were no other people there.

Madhefu allegedly took her into his room and closed the door from the inside and started fondling the complainant's breasts and buttocks.

He also removed her clothes.While inside the house, the accused person started fondling and pushed her onto his bed and raped her.

After the act they both dressed and Madhefu ordered the complainant to leave his room.
She complied and ran home crying.

When she arrived home, she told her young brother aged 12 about the sexual abuse and he went to inform their sister who then informed their brother who resides with the complainant.

The complainant's brother located Madhefu with the help of the complainant and took him to the police where the complainant filed her report.
