Tongogara are not surrendering their quest for the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League after overcoming one of their stumbling blocks beating in-form Chapungu 2-0 at Tongogara Stadium at the weekend.
With four matches before the end of the season and six points behind TelOne, Tongogara are not giving in as they are turned on the power to beat Chapungu who were on a good run.
Michael Mavhuto and Coster Chimbeva scored the goals that subdued Chapungu and kept Tongogara in the hunt. The army side, who had a gruelling run in the past weeks, have another tough challenge awaiting them at the weekend away to Dulibadzimu United before facing off against Amazon, FC Platinum U19 and then finish off the season against TelOne at home.
TelOne who came off a 3-0 win against CM Academy, have relatively easier assignments in which they can wrap up the title before the clash against Tongogara. The log leaders are at home against Shabanie Mine at Ascot Stadium this weekend before entertaining Loss Control, followed by a date against MSU. The clash against Tongogara winds up their season.
Dulibadzimu United came from behind to beat MSU 2-1 away the MSU Campus Stadium. MSU went ahead first through Simbarashe Khosa before a show of character from Dulibadzimu United, wrestling control of the game with goals from Messi Gushero and Meki Shaidi.
Dulibadzimu United coach Stanley “Stano” Ncube was thrilled by the resilience shown by his players.
“I’m very happy by the never say die attitude of my players. It’s not easy coming back into the match from a goal down away from home. This is the attitude that we need until the end of the season,” Ncube said.
Thibault Mthombeni was on target for Shabanie Mine in their Zvishavane Derby 1-0 win past FC Platinum U19 at Maglas Stadium.
Shabanie Mine coach Arnold “Dunga” Jani was elated getting the bragging rights of the town.
“It’s always good to win a derby because the victory is more for the fans than it is for the points. The fans cherish the derby win more than any other victory and I’m glad we delivered that to them,” Jani said.
Takudzwa Nyengera scored the solitary goal of the match as Kwekwe United returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory past Bishopstone while ZPC Munyati were 3-0 winners over Blanket Mine.
