A mechanic, who sold a car he had been given for panel beating and spray painting, has appeared in court.
Archibold Forbes Chibamu, 46, of Kambuzuma, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of theft of trust property.
The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges that in 2021, Chibamu, who is a mechanic, received a white Toyota Hilux from the complainant for panel beating and spray painting.
He promised to finish the job in a month’s time.
During the same period, the complainant went to check his car at Chibamu’s work place but could not find it.
The complainant made enquiries and gathered information that Chibamu had sold his car, but without his consent.
Chibamu promised to pay for the car but kept on giving false promises to the complainant and he later became evasive.
The car was worth US$7 000.
The complainant then made a report to police, leading to Chibamu’s arrest.
He was ordered to deposit US$100 and will appear in court on December 14.
