Gospel musician, Ivy Kombo and her husband, who were arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, were granted US$300 bail each after appearing before the court accused of fraudulently becoming legal practitioners.
Ivy Kombo, 48, and Admire Kasi, 61, of the Grange, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts on fraud and perjury allegations.
They were ordered to deposit US$300 as bail and will appear in court on December 20 for routine remand.
The State alleges that in 2013, the accused graduated from the University of Bedfordshire, United Kingdom with Bachelor of Laws degrees. For them to practice law in Zimbabwe, they had to attain a certificate of completion with the Council for Legal Education after writing and passing conversion examinations.
In 2021, Kombo, allegedly approached Shorai Tafadzwa Mupunga, a CLE official to assist her to register and write CLE conversion examinations.

Mupunga, advised her that she would engage Huggins Duri, who is the suspended secretary for CLE, already on remand to help.
In 2022, Mupunga approached Duri who said he was able to facilitate the issuing of the conversion certificates without them writing the conversion examinations if the accused paid US$1 100.
They paid the money through Mupunga who gave it to Duri who in turn processed the certificate which certified that accused had written and passed eight conversion subjects which are Statute Law, Evidence, Bookkeeping, Civil Law Practice duties and functions and Ethics for Legal Practitioners, Civil Practice and Procedure, Common Law 1 and Common Law 2.
It is alleged that Duri then gave Mupunga the certificate, who went on to give the certificates to the accused persons.
The State alleges that, in 2023, Duri instructed Mapunga to help accused to register as legal practitioners.
They went on to depose affidavits that they had written and passed council for legal education examinations and filed application for admission as legal practitioners at the High Court of Zimbabwe.
As a result, they were admitted as legal practitioners because of the fraudulent claim they had made under oath that they had written and passed conversion examinations.
By doing so, the State, alleges that, their actions caused prejudice to the good governance and administration of the CLE.
