A Parirenyatwa Hospital doctor and Mazowe Primary School teacher opened themselves to an investigation that has landed both in court after fighting over the ownership of a vehicle imported under the civil servant motor vehicle rebate scheme.

Wayne Chizinga, 28, of Hatfield and Tabeth Nyamande, 42, of Mazowe, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates' Courts facing fraud allegations.

The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu alleges that in January 2023, Chizinga bought a maroon Mazda Demio from Japan.

The State alleges that Chizinga's car arrived at Chirundu Border Post and Nyamande declared the car as hers and tendered a civil servants motor vehicle scheme rebate letter resulting in Chizinga's car being exempted from paying duty.

The car was duly registered in Nyamande's name.

A dispute arose between two accused persons on the ownership and possession of the car and the matter was referred to Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission for investigations leading to their arrest.

As a result, ZIMRA suffered an actual prejudice of import duty which is yet to be quantified.

The two were ordered to deposit US$300 each and they will appear in court on December 18 for routine remand.
