Man takes advantage of friendship, sells borrowed motor bike

A man, who allegedly abused his friendship with the complainant and sold him a motor bike he had borrowed, has appeared in court.

Jangiya Kimpton Kalonga, 34, of Chiweshe, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of fraud.

The complainant in this matter is Dereck Chigere, director of Bike-A Rama Private Limited.

Kalonga and Chigere have been friends since 2010.

The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges that Kalonga took advantage of the relationship he had with Chigere and went to him with a motorbike, which he claimed was selling.

He allegedly said, he had a serious problem and needed money, which led him to sell his Perera GY150 CC which had unregistered plates worth US$600.

Chigere was interested and negotiated with Kalonga until they agreed on US$500 as the selling price.

Chigere paid Kalonga a deposit of US$300, leaving a balance of US$200 which was to be paid when Kalonga had brought the registration book.

After two weeks, Kalonga came back for the balance and was given US$100 since he had not brought the registration book as agreed.

On another day, Kalonga went to Chigere’s workshop and allegedly lied to his worker that he had lost his copy of the agreement of sale he did with Chigere, as a result, he wanted to photocopy it.

He was given the original copy and never came back with it.

Chigere made frantic efforts to locate Kalonga and later on discovered that the motor bike did not belong to him as he had borrowed it from someone in Chiweshe.

He then filed a police report, leading to Kalonga’s arrest.

Chigere lost US$400 through Kalonga’s actions.

He was ordered to deposit US$100 and will appear in court on December 18.
