Farie Madungwe “disowns” Prophet Madungwe

Afrojazz veteran vocalist, Farisai Farie Madungwe says her cousin known as Prophet Madungwe is tainting the family name and affecting her own brand.

“Whenever I post anything online or produce my national identity card or passport, my fans are negatively aligning me with Talent who is claiming to be ever visiting, wining and dining with God,” Farie said.

The former backing vocalist to Victor Kunonga, Fungisai Zvakavapano Mashavave, Chief Hwenje, Bethen Pasinawako, Kudzi Nyakudya and more is now leading her own, BandBho.

Farie’s Bhandbho comprises of Blessing Madungwe on keyboardist, Ryan on lead guitar, Brandon on drums and Tanya Kasmiz the producer and bassist.

Prophet Madungwe is known for pronouncements based on his alleged visits to heaven where he says he converses directly with God. He has a high social media following.

Farie says Talent Madungwe is a first cousin as his late mother was sister to her father. In the Shona custom, this makes Farie a mother figure to Madungwe.

“I am just not happy as his mother if he is joking with God. The reply will always come on him one day. But if he is really Godly, then God be with him.

But, please my fans, I am kindly asking you never to judge me by the so called Prophet Madungwe. I am an Afro fusion musician and he is an alleged prophet of God,” said Farie who also shared that she has never been to Talent Madungwe’s church.

Farie said other members of the Madungwe family are also unhappy about their name being associated with the prophet.

“.. the name needs cleansing, a serious deep bath, but we need to fight back. We have the right to protect our Madungwe image, because no for now, he cannot keep using the name (Madungwe) in such a destructive manner. We now need to come together and pounce on him with legal charges that bar him from using the name because he has no DNA birthright to use our name,” said a named cousin to Farie on WhatsApp in a chat shown to this writer.

Farie says she has no idea about what Prophet Madungwe’s other surname could be.

“I do not know his father nor paternal surname because his mother passed on long back.

She said she has no qualification to say anything on Prophet Madungwe’s mental health condition in answer to questions from people who question his sanity.

“Some keep asking me if Talent is mentally healthy. I say, I do not know because I am not a medical doctor to examine him,” said Farie.
