Zim Now Writer

As its stock continues to rise, the recently-commissioned Damview Stadium near Guzha Shopping Centre, popularly known as Chikwanha, in Chitungwiza, tomorrow afternoon is the venue for an epic soccer duel between the hosts, Damview FC and Afdis Football Club.

True to the words of Damview Sports Coordinator, Khumbulani Calvin Nduku, Damview Stadium is indeed bringing together adult soccer lovers, priming it into becoming a venue of choice for all sporting activities.

“This is an epic encounter between supplier (Afdis) and customer (Damview) as we bring together all soccer lovers, both players and spectators alike.

“We want to promote social soccer in the community through the creation of private venues suitable for the social scenes associated with boozers’ clubs. At the same time, we also want the teams to create formal leagues in which they play so that they become a coordinated lot.

“We are actually trying to make Damview Grounds a centre for all sporting disciplines because there is no way we can continue to have schools hosting boozers’ games since the teams may want to drink.”

Nduku also said while soccer lovers troop to the stadium tomorrow, Eagle Pool Club from New Parliament in Mt Hampden date Damview Pool Club at the Blue Roof Bar and Grill.

This, he said, is testimony of the potential the venue may have to host many activities concurrently.

“Already, we have netball, soccer and a burnout track among other facilities at Damview,” Nduku said.

Nduku said the since its official opening last month, the stadium has hosted at least one match every Saturdays and another on Sundays, including a six-team tournament involving HE Swallows, Glen Norah Ambassadors, Mada Glass FC, Barca Kadoma, Marondera Leopards and Tipma FC two weeks ago.

Damview Stadium was commissioned two weeks ago with a match between one of the most popular social soccer sides in the country today, Panjap Motors and Damview FC.

Panjap is home to several soccer legends who include the ageless former Black Mambas, Blackpool, Dynamos and Warriors great, Masimba Dinyero, former CAPS United and Warriors rock solid defender Dumisani Mpofu among others.
