Harare giants, Dynamos are determined to make amends for their disappointing league season by claiming victory in the Chibuku Super Cup final against reigning champions Ngezi Platinum Stars this weekend.
Despite pushing Ngezi hard throughout the Premier Soccer League campaign, Dynamos ultimately fell short, finishing third in the standings. However, the upcoming cup final presents an opportunity for the team to redeem themselves and bring silverware back to their fans.
Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe is confident in his squad’s ability to secure a win, despite facing a strong Ngezi side.
“We are doing something good by reaching the final,” Mangombe stated at a press conference.
“We missed out on the league title and second place, but we are determined to make our fans happy by winning the Chibuku Super Cup.”
The team’s preparations for the final have been positive, with all players in good health and high spirits. Mangombe expressed his satisfaction with the squad’s fitness and motivation, adding: “I have a selection headache for the final 11, but that’s a good problem to have. The players are motivated, and now it’s just about fine-tuning our tactics.”
Participation in the final, regardless of the outcome, will secure Dynamos’ place in the Caf Confederations Cup next year. Mangombe is excited about the team’s return to continental competition after nearly a decade.
“It’s a great achievement for the team and the country as a whole,” he remarked.
“As the biggest club in Zimbabwe, we hope to lead by example and do well in the tournament. We won’t just be making up the numbers; we’ll be aiming to make our mark and announce that Dynamos is back.”
On a personal level, Mangombe is eager to add another medal to his collection. “At the end of the day, you want to say you managed to achieve something and win this trophy," he explained.
“We’re giving it our all to win the cup and add it to our trophy cabinet. It would be the biggest achievement for us this year.”
Mangombe also took the opportunity to praise his star players Tanaka Shandirwa and Donald Mudadi, who have been nominated for the Soccer Star of the Year award.
“I’m very proud of them,” he said. “They’ve had an exceptional season, and it’s unfortunate that other players from my team didn’t make the list. Junior Makunike, Frank Makarati, and Kelvin Moyo all had strong seasons, but they didn’t get the recognition they deserve. Nevertheless, I’m happy for Tanaka and Donald, and they deserve this recognition.”
With a healthy squad, high morale, and a clear goal in sight, Dynamos are determined to turn their league disappointment into cup glory. The Chibuku Super Cup final promises to be an exciting clash, and Dynamos will be hoping to end their season on a high note.
