A man, who took advantage of his wife’s unavailability and raped their maid, has been taken to court.
Blessed Kunje, 34, of Glen Norah B, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa at the Harare Magistrate’s Courts charged with rape.
The complainant in this matter is a 19-year-old woman.
The State, through prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, alleges that on September 3, at around 1930 hours, complainant went to Kunje’s place of residence and was employed as a housemaid and they started staying together.
After sometime Kunje’s wife left the house.
In November, 2023 at around 2000 hours, Kunje arrived from work and complainant told him that she had flu.
Kunje then offered ginger quality medication to the complainant and she refused to drink it.
She, however later drank the medication and went to bed at around 2100 hours. She later felt Kunje caressing her body lying besides her.
She stopped him but he told her that nothing would happen to her.
Kunje allegedly lifted the complainant to the dining room and lifted her skirt upwards.
He then dragged her to the bedroom, put her on bed and raped her twice.
After the act, Kunje slept in her bedroom.
The following morning, it is alleged that Kunje raped her once without protection.
In the same month at around 2100 hours, Kunje arrived home from work and started accusing the complainant of failing to take care of the family.
He then called her into the bedroom and she complied.
Kunje then raped her without protection.
On December 5, 2023 at around 2100 hrs, he allegedly grabbed her hand and tried to drag her into the house but she refused.
He went to bed and the complainant asked for keys since she wanted to use the toilet.
Kunje then opened the door for her.
That was when she managed to run away, seeking for help.
It is alleged that she went to an apostolic sect shrine and presented her problem.
Members of the apostolic sect church escorted her to ZRP Southlea Park and this is how the matter came to light.
Gofa ordered Kunje to apply for bail at the High Court and will appear in court on December 19 for his routine remand.
