Zimbabwe will supply South Africa with treated water amid a deepening water-shedding crisis in the southern neighbour.
“Cabinet approved the amendment to the agreement between the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Zimbabwe on the supply of treated water from Beitbridge water treatment works to Musina. Benefits of this agreement include improved water resources cooperation and governance. And enhanced livelihoods for the people of Zimbabwe due to the generation of much-needed foreign currency,” read a press briefing.
Zimbabwe Information Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere said that treated water will soon be channelled to the town of Musina.
Beitbridge and Musina border one of Africa’s busiest ports of entry with figures peaking during the festive season.
Official figures for 2022 showed an average of 20 000 people using the border post daily.
