Zim set to host 56th Conference of African Ministers of Finance

Zimbabwe is set to host the 56th Conference of African Ministers of Finance and Economic Planning from February 28 to March 5, 2024.

Pursuant to that, Acting President General Dr Constantino Chiwenga signed the Host Agreement with the Executive Secretary to United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Cleaver Gatete, at his Munhumutapa Offices in Harare on Friday.

“The Acting President extended his gratitude for the visit by the UNECA Executive Secretary to Zimbabwe, to sign the Host Country Agreement ahead of the 56th Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development that Zimbabwe is going to host from the 28th of February to the 5th of March 2024,” Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting services confirmed on X.

Also present at the signing ceremony was Deputy Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, David Mnangagwa.

Speaking at the event, Gatete said the upcoming conference, which brings together African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, governors of central banks, and entities of the United Nations system is aimed at driving sustainable industrialisation, creating jobs “eradicate poverty and contribute to sustained economic growth. Africa must build climate resilience, be able to access finance for its development and reap benefits from its natural resources”.

The annual conference will also include the participation of pan-African financial institutions, youth representatives, African academic and research institutions, development partners, inter-governmental organisations and other key stakeholders to engage and exchange views on the state of economic and social developments in Africa.
