Patience Muchemwa
The prospect of Highlanders FC’s defensive stalwart, Peter Muduhwa joining arch-rivals Dynamos FC, has sparked fury among Bosso supporters, with many branding it a betrayal.
Rumours swirling in the media suggest Muduhwa, affectionately known as “Mduli” (Wall) could be snapped up by the Harare giants within the next two weeks, dealing a major blow to Highlanders.
This comes on the heels of Dynamos bolstering their squad for the 2024 season by acquiring striker Obriel Chirinda from Bulawayo Chiefs. Now, with their sights set on CAF Confederation Cup glory, the Glamour Boys, boasting one of the league’s strongest defences, seek to further solidify their backline by poaching one of Bosso’s own.
However, the potential transfer has enraged Highlanders fans, who feel Muduhwa’s move to their fiercest rival would be an act of ultimate betrayal.
“If Peter joins DeMbare,” said Mjoko Mjoko, a passionate Bosso supporter, “he will face a hostile reception every time he sets foot at Emagumeni.”
Fellow fan Gibson Bhebhe echoed the sentiment, describing it as “selling out” comparing it with Masimba Mambare’s controversial switch to Dynamos in 2014.
“This is the highest level of betrayal,” declared Bhebhe, a view shared by Mthulisi Ncube who added, “He will be met with a hostile atmosphere.”
Meanwhile, on the Dynamos side, the potential acquisition was received with excitement.
“Muduhwa is more than welcome to the team,” said Tinashe Madziro, a die-hard Dynamos supporter. “We need a strong squad for the CAF competition.”
Whether Muduhwa’s rumoured move materialises or not and the extent of the backlash from Highlanders fans remain to be seen. However, one thing is certain: this potential transfer saga has ignited strong emotions across the Zimbabwean football landscape.
